LULA

Lula is a town of 1,400 inhabitants 40 kilometers away from Nuoro.

Located in the territory of the Baronie; together with the municipalities of Siniscola, Posada, Torpè, Lodè, Onanì, Osidda, Orune and Bitti, it is part of the body called the "Union of Municipalities of Montalbo", established in 2008.

Lula is famous for its religious and culinary traditions, spectacular landscapes, prehistoric sites and mining history.

In fact, from the Neolithic to the recent past, it is linked to the exploitation of the silver and lead mines of Sos Enattos and Guzzurra-S'Arghentaria, now included in the Geomining Park of Sardinia.

Sos Enattos Mine

The Sos Enattos mine, already exploited by the Romans, was rediscovered in the mid-nineteenth century and passed to a Franco-Belgian mining company in 1905.

Subsequently passed to private individuals, it was taken over by Rimisa s.p.a. in 1951 so as to achieve notable development, which stopped between periodic crises with the definitive closure in 1996.

Today it is part of the Geo-mining, Historical and Environmental Park of Sardinia, recognized by UNESCO.

The mining villages of Guzzurra and S'Arghentaria, linked to the extraction of lead-silver minerals, remained active at least from the mid-nineteenth century.

At the top of a hill you can see the remains of the small village of Guzzurra with the management building, the workers' quarters and a cistern.

At one time there was also a small hospital.

In the Su Ergiolu mine, the building containing the steam engine of the extraction shaft, the chimney tower that discharged the fumes and the tanks for the water necessary for processing the mineral deserve mention.

It is located within the municipal territory of Lula at 622 meters above sea level.

It constitutes the southernmost peak of the Montalbo mountain massif.

On the summit, finds from the Roman era have been found (artifacts, coins, etc.) which suggest the presence of a military garrison.

There is no shortage of individual works by artists active since the 2000s focused on artistic research that investigates with different materials, such as photography, sculpture, resin and other materials of a mixed and composite nature, reflections linked to contemporary society and its deepest contradictions.
