Nuraghe San Pietro - Torpè

Nuraghe San Pietro - Torpè

The nuraghe San Pietro was revealed in 1973, with the first excavation of the Superintendence of Archaeological Heritage of Sassari-Nuoro, although the most important excavation was carried out in the '80s.

The Nuraghe is a complex building with four side towers added to a central one.

Located in a previously settled area, the Nuraghe was build from Middle bronze age, moment of the erection of the central tower, to Final bronze age.

On the south of the monument there is a village, reused as a granary during the late Roman period.

There also must have been a Tomba dei giganti (protohistoric tomb), now lost, and a roman age funerary area.

The nuraghe and its related roman age settlement are framed in a marvellous garden of Mediterranean plants, enriched by various informative panels with Sardinian names and traditional uses and a fancy pic-nic area.
